Functional Description - Thermostat

A wax-type ball valve thermostat controls the operating temperature of the engine by controlling the amount of coolant flow to the radiator. The ball valve thermostat is located on the back side of the water pump housing and is serviced apart from the water pump. For MY2023, the ball valve thermostat is closed below 85°C (185°F). The ball valve thermostat begins to open at 90°C (194°F) to allow flow to the radiator. The ball valve thermostat is fully open by 95°C (203°F). For MY 2024, the ball valve thermostat is closed below 90°C (194°F). The ball valve thermostat begins to open at 95°C (203°F) to allow flow to the radiator. The ball valve thermostat is fully open by 100°C (212°F). This provides quick engine warm up and overall temperature control. The same thermostat is used for winter and summer seasons. The wax motor is in a sealed container at the spring end of the thermostat. When heated, the internal wax expands, overcoming closing spring tension and water pump pressure to force the valve to open.
