Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor

CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR

The CMP sensor is located on the front timing cover.
There is a metal tone wheel incorporated with the cam phaser. The tone wheel has holes spaced around the tone wheel to indicate camshaft position.

The CMP sensor is hall effect sensor that varies the 5.0 volt signal high and low as the holes in the tone wheel pass by the sensor.
