Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, run a Vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. NOTE: A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs. 
    4. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio and Telematics Box Module (if equipped), and then erase DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition on.
    7. Turn the Radio on and set the volume to 25.
    8. With the scan tool, read the active Radio DTCs.
      NOTE:

      A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. DETERMINE THE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION 
    1. Review the vehicle sales codes to determine the vehicle configuration.

      Is the vehicle equipped with the Global Telematics Box Module (TBM2) sales code RDG?

      Yes - this vehicle is equipped with sales code RDG 

      • Go To  3

      No - this vehicle is equipped with sales code RDG 

      • Go To  4
  3. READ AND RECORD THE TBM2 DTCS 
    1. With the scan tool, read the Global Telematics Box Module (TBM2).

      Does the TBM2 have any GPS Antenna related DTCs?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. ANTENNA INSPECTION 
    1. Using Service Information locate and verify the antenna is on the vehicle.
    2. Visually inspect the Antenna for damage.

      Is the antenna missing or damaged?

      Yes 

      • Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the GPS Antenna connector at the Antenna.
      NOTE:

      Review the results from STEP. Refer to  2.

    3. Disconnect the GPS Antenna connector at the corresponding module.
    4. Inspect both of the GPS Antenna connections and verify the Antenna is torqued to specification.

      Were the antenna connections clean and torqued to specification?

      Yes 

      • For vehicles built without  sales code RDG - Go To  6
      • For vehicles built with  sales code RDG - Go To  8

      No 

      • Clean the GPS Antenna connection(s) / torque to specification as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE (WITHOUT - RDG) 
    NOTE:

    Antenna reception testing

    must

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Connect the Radio Diagnostic Tool

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

      (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS)

    2. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    3. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio, and then erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Turn the Radio on.
    7. Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  13

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. TEST THE GPS ANTENNA CABLE (WITHOUT - RDG) 
    NOTE:

    Antenna reception testing

    must

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the vehicles GPS Antenna cable at the GPS Antenna.
      NOTE:

      Special tool 9977-6-13 should still be connected at the back of the Radio during this test.

    3. Connect the

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

    4. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    5. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio, and then erase DTCs.
    6. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. Turn the Radio on.
    9. Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Use the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to locate the open circuit, repair or replace the antenna cable as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  8. CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE (WITH - RDG) AT THE RADIO 
    NOTE:

    From Step

    Refer to  5.

    NOTE:

    1. Connect the Radio Diagnostic Tool

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

      (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS)

    2. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    3. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio and Telematics Box Module, and then erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Turn the Radio on.
    7. Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  13

      No 

      • Go To  9
  9. TEST THE GPS ANTENNA CABLE (WITH - RDG) BETWEEN THE RADIO AND TBM2 
    NOTE:

    Antenna reception testing

    must

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the vehicles GPS Antenna cable from the TBM2 that is between the Radio and TBM2.
      NOTE:

      Special tool 9977-6-13 should still be connected at the back of the Radio during this test.

    3. Connect the

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

    4. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    5. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio and Telematics Box Module, and then erase DTCs.
    6. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    7. Turn the ignition on.
    8. Turn the Radio on.
    9. Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  10

      No 

      • Use the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to locate the open circuit, repair or replace the antenna cable between the Radio and TBM2 as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  10. CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE (WITH - RDG) AT THE TBM2 
    NOTE:

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Connect the Radio Diagnostic Tool

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

      (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS)

    2. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    3. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio and Telematics Box Module, and then erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Turn the Radio on.
    7. Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  12

      No 

      • Go To  11
  11. TEST THE GPS ANTENNA CABLE (WITH - RDG) BETWEEN THE TBM2 AND THE GPS ANTENNA 
    NOTE:

    Antenna reception testing

    must

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

    3. Reconnect the vehicle harness for the GPS antenna cable to the Radio and TBM2.
    4. Disconnect the vehicles GPS Antenna cable between the TBM2 and the GPS Antenna.
    5. Connect the

      (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)

    6. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    7. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio and Telematics Box Module, and then erase DTCs.
    8. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    9. Turn the ignition on.
    10. Turn the Radio on.
    11. Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Use the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to locate the open circuit, repair or replace the antenna cable as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  12. CHECK THE TBM2 
    1. Replace the TBM2 in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, GLOBAL TELEMATICS BOX, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio, and then erase DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  13

      No 

  13. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, perform an ECU reset to the Radio and Telematics Box Module (if equipped), and then erase DTCs.
    9. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    10. Turn the ignition on.
    11. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    12. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
