Diagnostic Test
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors or vehicle connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the test lead 10159-6 or the use of Breakout Box 8443-55 to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL ACTIVE SEATBELT BUCKLE SENSOR DTCS
- Using the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Are there other seatbelt buckle sensor specific DTCs set as active in addition to the COMPONENT OR SYSTEM OPERATING CONDITIONS?
Yes
- Repair all other active seatbelt buckle sensor related DTCs before repairing the COMPONENT OR SYSTEM OPERATING CONDITIONS.
No
- Go To 3
- Using the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
- USE THE SCAN TOOL TO IDENTIFY THE SEATBELT BUCKLE SENSOR COUPLED CIRCUITS
- Using the scan tool, identify the two or more seatbelt buckle sensor circuits that read SET.
Are two or more seatbelt buckle sensor circuits DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair the two or more seatbelt buckle sensor circuits for a circuit coupling condition.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go to 4
- Using the scan tool, identify the two or more seatbelt buckle sensor circuits that read SET.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all ORC harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Presence of foreign conductive materials on connector pins and terminals.
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all ORC harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the standard key ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the keyless ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CONTROLLER, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT (ORC), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
