Exhaust Muffler: Notes

REMOVAL 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
2. Saturate the clamp nuts with Mopar® Rust Inhibitor and allow 5 minutes for penetration.
3. Remove the spare tire heat shield. Refer to SHIELD, HEAT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
4. Support the exhaust muffler with a jack stand.

5. Remove the exhaust isolator bolts and the exhaust isolator (right side).

6. Remove the ground strap.
7. Remove the exhaust isolator bolts and the exhaust isolator.

8. Remove the exhaust isolator bolts and the exhaust isolator (left side).

9. Remove the exhaust isolator bolts and the exhaust isolator.

10. Remove the exhaust isolator bolt and the exhaust isolator.

11. Remove the exhaust muffler to the center exhaust pipe nuts.

12. With the help of an assistant, remove the exhaust muffler.

INSTALLATION 

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.

• Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. A minimum of 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) is required between the exhaust system components and body/frame parts. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
• Check the exhaust system for leaks. Refer to EXHAUST LEAK TESTING  .
