Right Exhaust Manifold: Notes

REMOVAL 

1. Remove the catalytic converter assembly. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
2. Remove the right front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

   1 - Heater Hoses

3. Remove the heater hoses from the cylinder head cover and position the hoses aside.
4. Remove the five wire harness retainers securing the wire harness to frame rail.

5. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts and the exhaust manifold head shield.
6. Disconnect the right upstream Oxygen (O2) sensor wire harness connector.

   Exhaust Manifold Bolt Sequence

   NOTE:

   All fasteners removed must be installed in the same location they were removed from.

7. Using the sequence shown in the illustration, remove the exhaust manifold bolts an the exhaust manifold.
8. Remove the exhaust gasket.
9. Clean the mating surfaces.

INSPECTION AND CLEANING 

Cleaning

• Clean mating surfaces on cylinder head and manifold. Wash with solvent and blow dry with compressed air. Make sure all gasket mating surfaces are clean and free of any debris.

Inspection

• Inspect exhaust manifold for cracks or any type of damage.
• Inspect mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold for flatness with a straight edge. Gasket surfaces must be flat within 0.2 mm per 300 mm (0.008 inch per foot).

INSTALLATION 

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.

• All fasteners removed must be installed in the same location they were removed from.
• Position a NEW  exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
• The right exhaust manifold bolts must be tightened in the sequence shown in the torque table below.
• Re-check the torque for the exhaust manifold bolts.
• Start the engine and check for leaks.
