Catalytic Converter: Notes

REMOVAL 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
2. Saturate the bolts and with Mopar® Rust Inhibitor. Allow 5 minutes for penetration.
3. Disconnect the right and left side oxygen sensor wire harness connectors.
4. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

   3 - Left Front Heat Shield Heat Shield Bolt

5. Remove the left front heat shield nuts, left front heat shield bolt, and the left front heat shield.

6. Remove the transmission cooler line bolts and position the cooler lines aside for clearance.

7. Remove the catalytic convertor-to-exhaust manifold bolts.
8. Remove the catalytic convertor from the vehicle.
9. If replacing the catalytic convertor assembly, remove the oxygen sensors.

INSTALLATION 

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.

• If replacing the catalytic convertor assembly, apply anti-seize to the O2 sensor threads before installing in the catalytic convertors.
• Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. A minimum of 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) is required between the exhaust system components and body/frame parts. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
• Check the exhaust system for leaks. Refer to EXHAUST LEAK TESTING  .
