Removal And Installation: Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to
PUMP, VACUUM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the lower gearbox bolts (1a) and remove the dust shield (1b).
- Using the (special tool #2069100090, Holder, Front Damper 3 Pin), rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from the front) and install the (special tool #2063500091, Locking, Camshaft) timing tool (1a) on the vacuum pump mounting surface while positioning the pin (1b) in the camshaft hole (1c) and securely tighten the bolts.
- Remove the bolt (1a) and move the support bracket (1b) with the pipes out of the way.
- Disengage the clip (1a) from the frame rail (1b) and move the pipe (1c) aside.
- Install the (special tool #2063600090, Pin, Flywheel Locking) timing tool (1) through the crankcase and into the flexplate.NOTE:
DO NOT remove the timing tools until after the damper bolt has been reinstalled and tightened to specification.
- Install the (special tool #2064000090, Locking, Pulley) tool (1a) as shown in illustration in the figure and securely tighten the bolts (1b). Push the pin (1c) into the damper hole to prevent the damper from rotating on the crankshaft while removing the damper bolt.NOTE:
The damper bolt is a left-hand thread.
- Remove and discard the damper bolt (1d).
- Remove the damper (1) from the crankshaft.
