Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK EMERGENCY MANUAL PARK RELEASE (MPR) LEVER FOR OBSTRUCTIONS AND DAMAGE 
    1. Check the MPR Lever for obstructions, binding, and damage.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Remove the obstruction, repair the cause of binding or, if necessary, replace the Emergency MPR Lever in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK MPR CABLE FOR BINDING AND DAMAGE 
    1. Check MPR cable for binding and damage.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Repair the binding condition or replace the MPR Cable if necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK MPR LINKAGE ON TRANSMISSION FOR BINDING OR DAMAGE 
    1. Check MPR linkage on transmission for obstructions, binding, and damage.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Remove the obstruction, repair the cause of binding or, if necessary, replace the valve body in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK IF TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AVAILABLE 
    NOTE:

    Read Service Bulletins to determine if the software update is applicable to the customer complaint.

    1. With the scan tool, check if a TCM software update is available that may be related to the customer complaint.

      Is an update available?

      Yes 

      • Refer to  5.

      No 

      • Refer to  6.
  5. PROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) 
    1. Perform the TCM PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE. Refer to: MODULE PROGRAMMING, 8P75PH .
    2. Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      Were you able to successfully program the TCM and pass the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST?

      Yes 

      • Test Complete.

      No 

      • Refer to  6.
  6. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 
    1. With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
      NOTE:

      Stop the vehicle and place shifter into PARK position multiple times during the next step.

    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Refer to  7.

      No 

  7. REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) ASSEMBLY AND RETEST FOR DTCS 
    1. Replace the TCM assembly in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. Connect the component and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) harness connectors.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Using the Environmental Data or When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle within the conditions that set the DTC.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    No
