Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Read the HIGH VOLTAGE SAFETY PROCEDURES. Refer to:  HIGH VOLTAGE SAFETY PROCEDURES  .

When the HIGH VOLTAGE POWER DOWN PROCEDURE is necessary. Refer to:  HIGH VOLTAGE POWER DOWN  .

    NOTE:

An external Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) key (and/or pass/radio key), such as one used to gain access to a 24 hour gym, can cause this DTC to set and create a no start condition. Inspect the customer's key chain for any type of RFID key. If one is not found, question the customer to verify if a spare key chain has this RFID key on it or if it was removed from the original key chain before the vehicle was released for service. If a RFID key is present, remove the ignition key from the vehicle and remove the RFID key from the key chain. For GPEC equipped vehicles, disconnect the battery and wait a minimum of five minutes, reconnect and attempt to start the vehicle. For NCG equipped vehicles, turn the ignition on a minimum for one hour and then attempt to start the vehicle, If the vehicle does not start, continue with the diagnostic test.

    NOTE:

If the PIM was recently replaced, make sure that the Immobilizer ECU Replaced procedure was performed in accordance with the service information.

    1. With the scan tool, read Hybrid Control Processor (HCP) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Freeze Frame Data (If available), Event Data (If available), and Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read HCP DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK FOR ANY CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) DTCS AND DTCS IN THE PIM, BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM), POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM), AND RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) HUB
    1. With the scan tool, check for any CAN DTCs and check for any Theft Deterrent related DTCs in the BCM, PCM, or RF Hub. Especially the following HCP DTCs: P0601, P0603, P0604, P0605, P0606, P060C, P062F, P16F0, P16F1, P16F9. BCM DTCs: U151A-64, U151A-87.

Are any related CAN, BCM, PCM, or RF Hub DTCs set?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK FOR ANY IGNITION RUN/START DTCS IN THE HCP
    1. With the scan tool, check for any Ignition Run/Start DTCS in the HCP such as P2534 and P2535.

Is P2534 or P2535 DTCs active?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
    1. Disconnect all PIM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all PIM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read HCP DTCs.
