Motor Phase Resistance Diagnostic Test
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Power down the HV System.
- If any damage is found to the Motor Generator Unit (MGU) or Power Inverter Module (PIM) harness connectors or terminals, repair the connector and retest.
- If the connector and terminals appear in good shape, continue to step 2.
- Disconnect the Motor Generator (MGU) HV motor harness connector. Set the DVOM to ohms and measure the U-V-W terminals. Perform the following resistance measurements between the circuits at the 3 High Voltage Terminals at the MGU and compare the readings to the values shown in the table.
- Measure (U-V) phase resistance (MGU side). Record readings.
- Measure (V-W) phase resistance (MGU side). Record readings.
- Measure (W-U) phase resistance (MGU side). Record readings.
- If any resistance values are not within the specification, replace the MGU in accordance with the service information.
- If all resistance values are OK, go to Step 3.
- Check the Power Inverter Module (PIM) harness connectors for proper connection at the module. Verify that the connector is completely plugged in and properly locked prior to disconnecting for testing. Disconnect the PIM harness connector and check for any pushed out, damaged, corroded or spread terminals.
- If any damage is found to the connector or terminals, repair the connector and retest.
- If the connector and terminals appear in good shape, replace the Power Inverter Module (PIM) in accordance with the service information. Refer to: POWER INVERTER MODULE (PIM) / REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
