Motor B Resolver Resistance Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Power down the HV System. 
  2. Use special tool # 2064100080, (Electrical Test Lead Kit) to prevent any terminal damage.
  3. Disconnect the appropriate Power Inverter Module (PIM) harness connector. Set the DVOM to ohms and measure the resolver resistances. Perform resistance measurements at the PIM wiring harness connector. Compare the readings to the values shown in the table.
    1. Measure resistance between the Resolver B Sin Hi circuit and Resolver B Sin Lo circuit. Record readings.
    2. Measure resistance between the Resolver B Cos Hi circuit and Resolver B Cos Lo circuit. Record readings.
    3. Measure resistance between the Resolver B Excitation Hi circuit and Resolver B Excitation Lo circuit. Record readings.
    4. If any resistance values are not within the specification, go to step 4.
    5. If all resistance values are OK, go to Step. 6.
  4. Disconnect the Transmission resolver harness connector and check the terminals on the Transmission connector side and  Transmission wiring harness connector side for proper terminal connections for all resolver circuits. Repair as necessary and retest. If OK, with both harness connectors disconnected, check all resolver circuits below for opens, shorts to ground or short to another circuit. Repair as necessary and retest.
    1. Check Resolver B Excitation Hi circuit
    2. Check Resolver B Cos Hi circuit
    3. Check Resolver B Sin Hi circuit
    4. Check Resolver B Cos Lo circuit
    5. Check Resolver B Sin Lo circuit
    6. Check Resolver B Excitation Lo circuit
    7. If no problems are found with any resolver circuits, go to Step 5.
  5. Verify Transmission Resolver actual resistances with a DVOM at the Transmission harness connector (Transmission side) by setting the DVOM to ohms and measure the resolver circuit resistances. Compare the readings to the values shown in the table.
    1. Measure resistance between the Resolver B Sin Hi circuit and Resolver B Sin Lo circuit. Record readings.
    2. Measure resistance between the Resolver B Cos Hi circuit and Resolver B Cos Lo circuit. Record readings.
    3. Measure resistance between the Resolver B Excitation Hi circuit and Resolver B Excitation Lo circuit. Record readings.
    4. If any resistance values are not within the specification, replace the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information.
  6. Check the Power Inverter Module (PIM) harness connectors for proper connection at the module. Verify that the connector is completely plugged in and properly locked prior to disconnecting for testing. Disconnect the PIM harness connector and check for any pushed out, damaged, corroded or spread terminals.
    1. If any damage is found to the connector or terminals, repair the connector and retest.
    2. If the connector and terminals appear in good shape, continue to Step 7.
  7. Replace the Power Inverter Module (PIM) in accordance with the Service Information.
