Transmission Assembly (8HP75): Installation

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
CAUTION:
When supporting or lifting the transmission at the oil pan the weight of the transmission must be distributed evenly on the lifting fixture. Failure to do so could damage the oil pan and transmission.
NOTE:
If the transmission is being reconditioned (clutch/seal replacement) or replaced, it is necessary to perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST after installation. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Apply a light coat of grease into the engine crankshaft torque converter pilot.
- Verify that the transmission dowel pins are seated in engine block and protrude far enough to hold transmission in alignment.
1 - Rubber Access Plugs - Verify that the rubber access plugs are installed in the front of the transmission.
- Install the torque converter. Verify torque converter is completely seated. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- If removed or transmission was replaced, install the extension housing on the transmission.
- Hold torque converter in place during transmission installation of transmission.
- Rotate the torque converter to line up with the flex plate holes before the transmission is bolted to the engine.
- During installation of the driveshafts, align the previously created marks on the driveshafts with the marks on the output flanges.
- Perform the STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE. Refer to TRANSMISSION OIL FILL AFTER SERVICE .
- If the transmission is reconditioned or replaced, program the Transmission Control Module (TCM). Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
- If the valve body is replaced, program the Transmission Control Module (TCM). Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
