Catalytic Converter: Removal

- Remove the right side front two battery skid plate bolts.
- Remove the left side front two battery skid plate bolts.
- Remove the PHEV front skid plate brace. Refer to PLATE, SKID, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the PHEV transmission crossmember support. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1 - Transmission Mount to Transmission Crossmember Nuts - Remove the transmission mount to crossmember nuts.
- Remove the exhaust pipe. Refer to: 2.0L ENGINE - PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Support the transmission with suitable jack.
- Remove the bolts and the transmission support bracket.
- Lower the transmission.
- Remove the transmission cooler lines from transmission and lower the lines. Refer to 8HP50/850RE - TUBES AND HOSES, TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or 8HP75 - TUBES AND HOSES, TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or 8P75PH - TUBES AND HOSES, TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1 - Catalytic Converter Support Bracket Bolts - Remove the catalytic converter support bracket bolts.
1 - Catalytic Converter Support Bracket 2 - Catalytic Converter Support Bracket Nuts - Remove the catalytic converter support bracket nuts and the catalytic converter support bracket.
- Remove the sway bar heat shield fastener and the sway bar heat shield.
- Remove the cowl cover silencer. Refer to SILENCER, COWL EXTENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to 2.0L ENGINE - COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the coolant line nut at the turbocharger and reposition the coolant line.
- Remove the upstream oxygen sensor. Refer to 2.0L ENGINE - ENGINE SENSORS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1 - Upper Turbocharger Heat Shield Bolts 2 - Upper Turbocharger Heat Shield - Remove the upper turbocharger heat shield bolts and the upper turbocharger heat shield.
- Remove the two upper EGR tube nuts and position away.
- Disconnect the downstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector.
- If equipped, remove the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor. Refer to SENSOR, EXHAUST TEMPERATURE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
1 - Differential Pressure Sensor Hoses - If equipped, disconnect the differential pressure sensor hoses.
1 - Catalytic Converter to Turbocharger Exhaust Clamp Bolt 2 - Exhaust Clamp 3 - Catalytic Converter - Loosen the catalytic converter to turbocharger exhaust clamp bolt and position aside the exhaust clamp.
- Remove the stiffening plate. Refer to: 2.0L ENGINE - PLATE, STIFFENING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Raise and support the vehicle.
INSPECTION AND CLEANING
INSPECTION
- Look at the stainless steel body of the Catalytic Converter assembly, inspect for bulging or other distortion that could be a result of overheating.
- Indication of exhaust gas leakage such as soot trails.
- Joint misalignment.
- Denting of greater than 6.3 mm (0.25 in.).
- Outer shell torn, cracked or otherwise damaged.
- Loose or damaged core.
