Retainer, Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal: Removal

NOTE:

If the crankshaft is replaced for any reason, the rear oil seal must also be replaced.

NOTE:

If the rear oil seal retainer is removed from the engine for any reason, the gasket and oil seal must be replaced.

  1. Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL .
  2. Remove the oil pan to oil seal retainer bolts.
    NOTE:

    It is not necessary to remove the oil pan. shown in illustration with oil pan removed for clarity.

  3. Remove the eight bolts (2) and the crankshaft oil seal retainer (1).

  4. Remove and discard the gasket (1) and the oil seal (3). Care must be taken when removing the oil seal to avoid scratching the seal bore.
  5. Verify the integrity of the locating pins (4).
