Retainer, Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal: Removal
NOTE:
If the crankshaft is replaced for any reason, the rear oil seal must also be replaced.
NOTE:
If the rear oil seal retainer is removed from the engine for any reason, the gasket and oil seal must be replaced.
- Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL .
- Remove the oil pan to oil seal retainer bolts.NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the oil pan. shown in illustration with oil pan removed for clarity.
- Remove the eight bolts (2) and the crankshaft oil seal retainer (1).
- Remove and discard the gasket (1) and the oil seal (3). Care must be taken when removing the oil seal to avoid scratching the seal bore.
- Verify the integrity of the locating pins (4).
