Retainer, Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal: Installation
NOTE:
If the crankshaft is replaced for any reason, the rear oil seal must also be replaced.
NOTE:
If the rear oil seal retainer is removed from the engine for any reason, the gasket and oil seal must be replaced.
- Using a NEW gasket, Install and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install and tighten the oil pan to oil seal retainer bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lubricate the outside of the (special tool #2044800090, Guide, Crankshaft Seal) with clean engine oil and place the guide on the end of the crankshaft.
1 - Crankshaft Seal Guide 2 - Crankshaft Oil Seal - Install a NEW
engine crankshaft oil seal over the crankshaft seal guide and onto the crankshaft. Remove the guide.
1 - Short Seal Driver Handle 2 - Crankshaft Seal Installer - Using the (special tool #2024600090, Installer, Crankshaft Seal) and (special tool #C-4171-3, Seal Driver Handle, Short), drive the rear crankshaft oil seal into the seal retainer until the installer bottoms out against the seal retainer.
1 - Oil Seal Lip 2 - Crankshaft - Verify that the oil seal lip on the retainer is uniformly curled inward toward the engine on the crankshaft.
- Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, INSTALLATION .
