Cover(S), Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. If removed, install the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve to the cylinder head cover. Refer to VALVE, POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV), INSTALLATION .

  2. Install new gaskets (1 and 2) to the cylinder head cover.

  3. Clean the cylinder head cover sealing surface at the front cover/cylinder head T-joints (1) with isopropyl alcohol in preparation for sealant application.
    CAUTION:

    Engine assembly requires the use of a unique sealant that is compatible with engine oil. Using a sealant other than Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant may result in engine fluid leakage.

    CAUTION:

    Following the application of Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant to the gasket surfaces, the components must be assembled within 10 minutes and the attaching fasteners must be tightened to specification within 45 minutes. Prolonged exposure to the air prior to assembly may result in engine fluid leakage.

  4. Apply a 2 to 3 mm wide bead of Mopar® Threebond Engine RTV Sealant to the cylinder head cover sealing surface at the front cover/cylinder head T-joints (1).

  5. Install the cylinder head cover to the cylinder head.
  6. Tighten the twenty captured bolts in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. Install the ignition capacitor (1) and tighten the nut (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Position the wire harness (1) and engage the wire harness retainers to the cylinder head cover.

  9. Install the upstream oxygen sensor connector support bracket (1) and tighten the nut (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  10. Install the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) hose (2) and connect the quick couplings.
  11. Install the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose (1) and connect the quick couplings.
  12. Install the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Refer to VALVE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), INSTALLATION .
  13. Install the variable valve timing solenoids. Refer to SOLENOID, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING, INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the fuel injectors. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the ignition coils. Refer to COIL, IGNITION, INSTALLATION .
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
