Cam Chain
- Remove the timing chain cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL .NOTE:
If the timing chain plated links (2) can no longer be seen, the timing chain links corresponding to the timing mark (3) must be marked prior to removal if the chain (1) is to be reused.
- Using a paint pen or equivalent, mark chain links (2) corresponding to crankshaft sprocket timing mark (3).
- Using a paint pen or equivalent, mark both camshaft sprocket timing marks (1 and 2) and corresponding chain links to aid in reassembly.
- Remove the bolt (1) and cam chain guide (2).
- Use the cam chain tensioner arm (2) to push in the tensioner piston and insert the (special tool #8514A, Pins, Tensioner) (1) to hold the tensioner piston in the retracted position. If the pin can not be inserted, the tensioner will have to be reset. Refer to
RESETTING CAM CHAIN TENSIONER .
- Remove the bolts (2) and remove the cam chain tensioner (1).
- Remove the cam chain.
