Engine Oil Pump

  1. Install new engine oil pump gaskets (1).
  2. If removed, install the engine oil pump displacement control solenoid (2b) with a new O-ring and tighten the stud bolt (2a) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. To install the engine oil pump, use the (special tool #2027100090, Kit, Engine Timing) as described below:

  4. Position one (special tool #2027103090, Wrench, Oil Pump) (1) on the outer gear resting against the engine oil pump displacement control solenoid (2) as shown in illustration and the second (special tool #2027103090, Wrench, Oil Pump) on the engine oil pump driveshaft.
  5. Rotate the engine oil pump driveshaft to align the two gears and install the (special tool #2027104090, Holder, Oil Pump Gear Teeth) (3) in the location shown in illustration to lock the gears in this preload position.
  6. Remove the wrenches used for preloading.
  7. Attach the cable portion of the (special tool #2027108090, Remover, Gear Tooth Holder) (4) to the holder (3).

    NOTE:

    The gears are properly aligned when the tab (3) is positioned in the left half of the slot and the holder (1) is positioned between the Gear Clip alignment marks (2).

  8. Verify that the gears are properly aligned and the holder (1) is positioned as shown in illustration.

  9. Install the (special tool #2027105090, Alignment Tool, Oil Pump Shaft) (1) in the position shown in illustration.

  10. Insert the longer of the two (special tool #2027101090, Alignment Pins, Balance Shaft) (1) through the balance shaft mount into the balance shaft alignment hole and position as shown in illustration.
  11. Install the (special tool #2027102090, Alignment Pins, Oil Pump) (2) in the positions shown in illustration.

  12. Feed the remover cable (1) through the oil pump cavity and out the front of the engine block.

  13. Position the oil pump (1a) on the oil pump alignment pins avoiding contact with the balance shaft alignment pin (1b).

  14. Begin installation with the oil pump shaft alignment tool (1) resting against the upper boss (2) as shown in illustration. As the oil pump is installed, the oil pump driveshaft will rotate clockwise until the alignment tool (1) comes to rest against the lower boss (3) assuring correct meshing of the gear teeth.

  15. Seat the oil pump (1) squarely against the engine block mounting surface, engaging the oil pump gears to the balance shaft gear.
  16. Hold the oil pump against the engine block mounting surface and install three engine oil pump bolts hand tight.

  17. Attach the hook from the (special tool #2027108090, Remover, Gear Tooth Holder) to the previously installed cable (2) and remove the gear tooth holder (1).
  18. Remove oil pump shaft alignment tool and the oil pump alignment pins.

  19. Install the remaining two bolts (1b) securing the engine oil pump (1a) hand tight.

  20. Tighten the screws in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  21. Verify correct oil pump and balance shaft timing:
    • Temporarily install the oil pump drive gear (2) on the oil pump driveshaft.
    • Insert the longer of the two (special tool #2027101090, Alignment Pins, Balance Shaft) (1) through the balance shaft mount into the balance shaft alignment hole.
    • Verify that the oil pump reference mark (3) and oil pump drive gear mark (4) are aligned. If the oil pump and balance shaft timing is not correct, repeat this procedure.

  22. Connect the wire harness connector (1) to the engine oil pump displacement control solenoid.
  23. Install the oil pump sprocket. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, INSTALLATION  .
  24. Install the oil pump drive chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, INSTALLATION  .
  25. Install the cam chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, INSTALLATION  .
  26. Install the timing chain cover and cylinder head cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, INSTALLATION .
