Switch, Remote Radio: Removal

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

Right switch shown in the illustration, left switch similar.

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
Remove the driver air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL .

From the back of the steering wheel, remove the left and right remote radio switch covers (2) from the switches (1) by inserting a small flat screwdriver or equivalent into the slot (3) on each and prying outward.

Remove the left and right remote radio switch (1) retaining fasteners (2).

Gently remove both switches (1) from the steering wheel (3) to gain access to the steering wheel bezel retaining fasteners (2).
Remove the left and right steering wheel bezel retaining fasteners.

From the back of the steering wheel, remove the fasteners (2) that secure the lower steering wheel bezel (1).

From the front of the steering wheel, remove the fasteners (2) that secure the steering wheel bezel.
Disconnect the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) switch wire harness connector (1).
Disconnect the speed control switch wire harness connector (3) and remove the steering wheel bezel.

Disconnect the appropriate left or right remote radio switch wire harness connector (1) and route the harness through the appropriate slot (2) within the steering wheel, removing the ineffective remote radio switch from the steering wheel.
