Diagnostic Test
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, run a Vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
- NOTE: A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs.
- With the scan tool, record and erase the Radio DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
- Turn the Radio on and set the volume to 25.
- With the scan tool, read the active Radio DTCs.
NOTE:A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the appropriate INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- DETERMINE THE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION
- READ AND RECORD THE TBM2 DTCS
- ANTENNA INSPECTION
- Using Service Information locate and verify the antenna is on the vehicle.
- Visually inspect the Antenna for damage.
Is the antenna missing or damaged?
Yes
- Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the GPS Antenna connector at the Antenna.NOTE:
Review the results from STEP. Refer to 2.
- Disconnect the GPS Antenna connector at the corresponding module.
- Inspect both of the GPS Antenna connections and verify the Antenna is torqued to specification.
Were the antenna connections clean and torqued to specification?
Yes
- For vehicles built without sales code RDG - Go To 6
- For vehicles built with sales code RDG - Go To 8
No
- Clean the GPS Antenna connection(s) / torque to specification as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE (WITHOUT - RDG) NOTE:

- Connect the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)and (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) to the GPS Antenna connection on the back of the Radio.
- Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on.
- Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 13
No
- Go To 7
- TEST THE GPS ANTENNA CABLE (WITHOUT - RDG) NOTE:
Antenna reception testing
must
be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the vehicles GPS Antenna cable at the GPS Antenna.NOTE:
Special tool 9977-6-13 should still be connected at the back of the Radio during this test.
- Connect the (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to the vehicles GPS Antenna.
- Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on.
- Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Use the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to locate the open circuit, repair or replace the antenna cable as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE (WITH - RDG) AT THE RADIO NOTE:

- Connect the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)and (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) to the GPS Antenna connection on the back of the Radio.

- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.

Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 11
No
- Go To 9
- TEST THE GPS ANTENNA CABLE (WITH - RDG) BETWEEN THE RADIO AND TBM2 NOTE:

- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the vehicles GPS Antenna cable from the TBM2 that is between the Radio and TBM2.NOTE:
Special tool 9977-6-13 should still be connected at the back of the Radio during this test.
- Connect the (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to the TBM2.
- Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on.
- Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 10
No
- Use the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to locate the open circuit, repair or replace the antenna cable between the Radio and TBM2 as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE (WITH - RDG) AT THE TBM2 NOTE:

- Connect the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra)and (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) to the GPS Antenna connection on the TBM2.
- Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on.
- Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 12
No
- Go To 11
- TEST THE GPS ANTENNA CABLE (WITH - RDG) BETWEEN THE TBM2 AND THE GPS ANTENNA NOTE:

- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) between the Radio and TBM2.
- Reconnect the vehicle harness for the GPS antenna cable to the Radio and TBM2.
- Disconnect the vehicles GPS Antenna cable between the TBM2 and the GPS Antenna.
- Connect the (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to the TBM2 and GPS Antenna.
- Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on.
- Using the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Use the Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-13, Adapter, Long RF RG-58 Fakra) to locate the open circuit, repair or replace the antenna cable as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE TBM2
- Replace the TBM2 in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, GLOBAL TELEMATICS BOX, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 13
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Radio in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to RADIO, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
