Input Shaft Seal

REMOVAL 

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  2. Remove the four input shaft shield bolts and the input shaft shield.
  3. Using

    (special tool #2051800210, Remover, Seal Input Shaft)

    , remove the input shaft seal.

    NOTE:

    Be careful not to damage the case when removing the seal. A leak can occur on the outside sealing edge if the aluminum case is compromised during the seal removal.

    4 - Forcing Screw Hex End
  4. Remove the forcing screw and thread the large end of the tool tightly into the seal using the hex end and a suitable wrench. Install the forcing screw and, using a wrench to hold the hex end, turn the forcing screw hex end clockwise to pull the seal from the case.
  5. Clean the sealing surface with brake clean or a similar parts cleaner.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install a NEW  input shaft seal using the seal installer (special tool #2052000210, Installer, Seal Input Shaft).
    NOTE:

    Verify the input shaft seal installed depth is within specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  2. Install the input shaft shield and torque the bolts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Install the transmission. Refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
