Disassembly And Assembly - Off Vehicle

DISASSEMBLY
The intake and exhaust valves and springs are NOT interchangeable. Mark the valves and springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for NEW springs being installed.
- Use Valve Spring Compressor Tool (special tool #C-3422-D, Compressor, Valve Spring) and Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) and compress each valve spring.
- Remove the valve locks, retainers, and springs.
- Use a smooth stone or a jewelers file to remove any burrs on the top of the valve stem, especially around the groove for the locks.
- Remove the valves, and place them in a rack in the same order as removed.

- Repeat this procedure for all cylinders.
ASSEMBLY
Follow the disassembly procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Verify that the garter spring is intact around the top of the valve guide seal.
- Coat the valve stems with clean engine oil and install the valves into the cylinder head.
