DISASSEMBLY

The intake and exhaust valves and springs are NOT  interchangeable. Mark the valves and springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for NEW  springs being installed.

  1. Use Valve Spring Compressor Tool (special tool #C-3422-D, Compressor, Valve Spring) and Valve Spring Compressor Adapter (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) and compress each valve spring.
  2. Remove the valve locks, retainers, and springs.
  3. Use a smooth stone or a jewelers file to remove any burrs on the top of the valve stem, especially around the groove for the locks.
  4. Remove the valves, and place them in a rack in the same order as removed.
