Diagnostic Test

READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition on.
6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?

Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID CONDITION
1. Check the Transmission fluid condition.
  Is the Transmission fluid burnt?
  
  Yes
  - Remove the Transmission and perform the appropriate repair for this DTC in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  - Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Go To 3
PERFORM CLUTCH AIR PRESSURE TESTS
1. Perform an air pressure test for the related clutches in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CLUTCH AIR PRESSURE TESTS .
  Did the clutches pass the air pressure tests?
  
  Yes
  - Go To 4
  No
  - Remove the Transmission and perform the appropriate repair for this DTC in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  - Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
1. The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
2. Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
3. Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
4. Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
  Were any problems found?
  
  Yes
  - Repair as necessary.
  - Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Replace the TCM in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  - Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
