Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK DRIVING CONDITION PRESENT WHEN DTC OCCURRED 
    1. Obtain information from the operator of the vehicle whether it was being operated in a manner or condition that created a rapid deceleration event.

      Was an unusual driving situation present that caused a rapid vehicle deceleration event present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. INSPECT DRIVELINE FOR DAMAGE 
    1. Inspect the driveline for any broken or damaged that would cause the vehicle to rapidly decelerate.

      Is there any driveline failures present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE BRAKE SYSTEM 
    1. With scan tool, check to see if there are any DTC present in the Antilock Brake System (ABS) module.

      Were any DTCs present in the ABS module?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK IF TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AVAILABLE 
    NOTE:

    Read Service Bulletins to determine if the software update is applicable to the customer complaint.

    1. With the scan tool, check if a TCM software update is available that may be related to the customer complaint.

      Is an update available?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  6
  5. PROGRAM THE TCM 
    1. Perform the TCM PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE. Refer to MODULE PROGRAMMING .
    2. Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 8HP50/850RE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      Were you able to successfully program the TCM and pass the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST?

      Yes 

      • Test Complete.

      No 

  6. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    No
