Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read all DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) BUS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
Are any TCM CAN bus DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair TCM CAN bus DTCs. If DTC U0001-00 CAN C BUS or U0074-00 DEDICATED POWERTRAIN (DPT) CAN BUS OFF are set, perform that diagnostic first. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- CHECK FOR ESM DTCS
- With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs and record on the repair order.
Are any ESM DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair ESM DTCs. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the ESM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRONIC SHIFT (ESM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs and record on the repair order.
