Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR OTHER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
Are any Gear Ratio or Speed Sensor DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair the TCM DTCs. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 2
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- CHECK FOR POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DTCS
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Are any PCM DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair the PCM DTCs. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
- CHECK FOR ENGINE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS
- Determine if any Engine mechanical problems are present.
Are any Engine mechanical problems present?
Yes
- Repair Engine in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Determine if any Engine mechanical problems are present.
- CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION MECHANICAL PROBLEMS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Transmission Oil Pan and inspect for excessive debris or a plugged Transmission Oil Filter.
Is there any debris, plugged Transmission Oil Filter, or signs of an internal Transmission problem?
Yes
- Repair the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the TCM connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
