Diagnostic Test

- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any DEF Injector DTCs or DEF Supply/DEF Purge Pump DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE DEF TANK LEVEL AND FLUID
- Verify the DEF Tank level.
- Check the fluid for signs of contamination.
Is the fluid level in the DEF Tank above the minimum requirement and free of contamination?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Fill the DEF Tank to the proper level with clean Diesel Exhaust Fluid. If the fluid is contaminated, perform the cleaning procedure. If P241D was also present, it will be necessary to reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, Go to Misc. Functions> SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE DEF SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR LEAKS
- Using the scan tool, begin the DEF Injector Quantity Test
- During the DEF Injector Quantity Test, visually inspect the DEF Supply Pump Assembly and DEF Pressure Line for signs of a fluid leak.
Are there any leaks in the DEF System?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair. If P241D was also present, it will be necessary to reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, Go to Misc. Functions> SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE DEF INJECTOR
- Stop actuation of the DEF Injector Quantity Test.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the DEF Injector and place in a clean container.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the DEF Injector Quantity Test.NOTE:
When the DEF Injector (Dosing Valve) Actuator Test is initiated, the DEF Injector is opened. Wait 30 seconds before checking for leaks.
- Check the DEF Injector for a leak.
Is the DEF Injector leaking?
Yes
- Replace the DEF Injector. If P241D was also present, it will be necessary to reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, Go to Misc. Functions> SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the DEF Supply Pump Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. If P241D was also present, it will be necessary to reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, Go to Misc. Functions> SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
