NOTE:

When the ambient air temperature is greater than 0°C (32°F) the DEF system will start dosing once the exhaust system has reached a temperature 150°C (302°F) or above. If the ambient air temperature is less than 0°C (32°F) the DEF system dosing will start after a defrost cycle. The defrost cycle is initiated by driving the vehicle. For an ambient air temperature of -20°C (-4°F) 1 hour of driving is required for the defrost cycle to complete, an ambient air temperature of -15°C (5°F) requires 40 minutes of driving for the defrost cycle to complete, an ambient air temperature of -7°C (19.4°F) requires 20 minutes of driving is for the defrost cycle to complete, and an ambient air temperature of -5°C (23°F) requires 5 minutes of driving for the defrost cycle to complete.

This diagnostic runs continuously when the following conditions are met:

NOx Sensors are active and the DEF system is injecting UREA.
The vehicle has been driven at steady highway speeds for a sufficient amount of time.
