Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Before continuing on with further diagnosis, address any of the following DTCs: P05ED - Reductant Heater Control Module Supply Voltage, P2043 - Reductant Temperature Sensor Circuit Performance, P20BA - Reductant Heater 1 Control Circuit Performance, P20BB - Reductant Suction Line Heater Control Circuit Low, P20BC - Reductant Suction Line Heater Control Circuit High, P20BD - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit/Open, P20BE - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit Performance, P20BF - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit Low, P20C0 - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit High, P20C2 - Reductant Heater 3 Control Circuit Performance, P20C6 - Reductant Heater 4 Control Circuit Performance.
Are there any of the listed DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 2
- Before continuing on with further diagnosis, address any of the following DTCs: P05ED - Reductant Heater Control Module Supply Voltage, P2043 - Reductant Temperature Sensor Circuit Performance, P20BA - Reductant Heater 1 Control Circuit Performance, P20BB - Reductant Suction Line Heater Control Circuit Low, P20BC - Reductant Suction Line Heater Control Circuit High, P20BD - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit/Open, P20BE - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit Performance, P20BF - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit Low, P20C0 - Reductant Pressure Line Heater Control Circuit High, P20C2 - Reductant Heater 3 Control Circuit Performance, P20C6 - Reductant Heater 4 Control Circuit Performance.
- VERIFY AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN NOTE:
Inspect the Diesel Exhaust Fluid before continuing with this Diagnostic Tree. If there is evidence of contamination or degraded fluid; Perform the Diagnostic and Testing - Diesel Exhaust Fluid procedure.
Refer to DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID EMISSIONS [EXJ], DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on, run the engine and SCR to operating temperature.
- Test drive the vehicle under normal operating conditions to induce the DEF system.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE DEF LINES AND FITTINGS FOR LEAKS OR RESTRICTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Visually inspect the DEF lines and fittings for signs of damage, including leaks, restricted lines, pinched lines.
- Remove the lines from the fittings at the DEF Supply Pump Assembly and the DEF Injector and inspect the fitting for signs of crystallization or blockages.
Were any leaks or blockages found?
Yes
- Repair or replace the leaking or blocked lines or fittings as necessary. If P241D is active, then perform: Reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, go to Misc. Functions>SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer). Also, test drive the vehicle for 30 miles before beginning the PCM Verification Test.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE DEF PUMP ASSEMBLY
- Reconnect all of the DEF lines.
- Remove the DEF Injector from the Exhaust pipe.
- Inspect and remove any crystallization build-up on the exhaust side of the injector.
- Place the DEF Injector in a container to capture the fluid sprayed.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, navigate to the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Injector Quantity Test.NOTE:
This Test is broken up into three parts: 1-Air bleed/Build Pressure (about 30 seconds/then empty the container), 2-Main volume test (a little over one minute), 3-DEF purge (to remove excess fluid from the lines after the test). The entire procedure will run for 2-3 minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate through out the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate. The fluid should spray out as a mist. There should be no dripping from the holes in the DEF Injector at any time during the duration of the test procedure.
- Measure the amount of fluid sprayed after the test times out.
Does the fluid sprayed measure between 26 ml and 35 ml?
Yes
- Repair complete. If P241D is active, then perform: Reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, go to Misc. Functions>SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer). Also, test drive the vehicle for 30 miles before beginning the PCM VERIFICATION Test.
No
- Go To 6
- REPLACE THE DEF INJECTOR AND RETEST FOR DTCS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the DEF Injector in accordance with the Service Information.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, navigate to the Diesel Exhaust Quantity Test.NOTE:
This Test is broken up into three parts: 1-Air bleed/Build Pressure (about 30 seconds/then empty the container), 2-Main volume test (a little over one minute), 3-DEF purge (to remove excess fluid from the lines after the test). The entire procedure will run for 2-3 minutes before timing out. No
- Replace the supply line and run the Override Test again. If the test fails with the new line, then replace the DEF Pump Assembly in accordance with Service Information. If P241D is active, then perform: Reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, go to Misc. Functions>SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer). Also, test drive the vehicle for 30 miles before beginning the PCM VERIFICATION Test.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
