Diagnostic Test

- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE DEF LINE HEATER (K404) SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the DEF Line Heater harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the DEF Line Heater (K404) Supply circuit at the DEF Line Heater harness connector.
Is the voltage above 5.2 Volts?
Yes
- Repair the DEF Line Heater (K404) Supply circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE DEF LINE HEATER ASSEMBLY FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the DEF Line Heater Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
- Reconnect the DEF Line Heater harness connector.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the PCM.
- Start the engine.
- Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
- Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Replace the Heater Control Unit (HCU) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replacing the DEF Line Heater Assembly repaired the fault.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
