Diagnostic Test
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS NOTE:
Verify that the DEF level in the DEF Tank is not too low before beginning this Diagnostic.
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any other DEF Supply Pump DTCs or DEF Purge Pump DTCs active or pending?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) SUPPLY PUMP (F203) SUPPLY VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
- Disconnect the DEF Pump C1 harness connector.
- Measure the continuity of the DEF Supply Pump (F203) Supply Voltage circuit between the PDC C3 harness connector and the DEF Pump Temp/Level Sensor C1 harness connector (at Pump assembly pins 4 and 1).
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the DEF Supply Pump (F203) Supply Voltage circuit for an open/high resistance. Reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, go to Misc. Functions>SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FUSE F87 FOR AN OPEN
- Turn the ignition on.
- Check Fuse F87-10A for an open.
Is the Fuse open?
Yes
- Replace Fuse F87-10A. Then, refer to the Wiring Information and determine where the short circuit is that may have caused the open Fuse.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) SUPPLY PUMP (F203) SUPPLY VOLTAGE CIRCUIT WITHIN THE PDC FOR OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- With the scan tool, activate the DEF Dosing Injection Quantity routine.
- Leaving Fuse F87 unplugged and the PDC C5 harness connector disconnected, measure the continuity of the relay side of the Fuse to the DEF Supply Pump (F203) Supply Voltage circuit at the PDC side of the PDC C5 harness connector while the DEF Dosing Injection Quantity routine is activated.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms when the routine is activating?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Replace the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in accordance with the Service Information. Reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, go to Misc. Functions>SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE DEF PUMP SUPPLY/PURGE LINES FOR LEAKS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Visually inspect the DEF Pump Supply/Purge lines for leaks.
Are there any leaks present?
Yes
- Repair the DEF Pump Supply/Purge line(s) that are leaking. Then, begin this Diagnotic Tree again starting with the '1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC' Test Step.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the DEF Pump in accordance with the Service Information. Reset the SCR Timer: Using the scan tool, go to Misc. Functions>SCR Extend Mileage W Active Fault (and reset the Timer).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
