Diagnostic Test

- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE GLOW PLUG 1 (A202) CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the Glow Plug 1 (A202) Control circuit at the Glow Plug 1 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the Glow Plug 1 (A202) Control circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance between ground and the Glow Plug 1 (A202) Control circuit at the Glow Plug 1 harness connector.
- CHECK THE GLOW PLUG 1 FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the Glow Plug in accordance with the Service Information.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
- Perform several ignition key cycles leaving the ignition on for at least 10 seconds per cycle.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Test complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE GLOW PLUG MODULE FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Glow Plug and the Glow Plug Module.
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Glow Plug Module in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
