Clutch Air Pressure Tests

Inoperative clutches can be located using a series of tests by substituting air pressure for fluid pressure using (special tool #10383, Plate, Clutch Pressure Test).
The clutches may be tested by applying air pressure to their respective passages. To make air pressure tests, proceed as follows:
NOTE:
The compressed air supply must be free of all dirt and moisture. Use a pressure of 5-8 bar (73-116 psi).
- Remove the valve body. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install (special tool #10383, Plate, Clutch Pressure Test) and tighten bolts to 6 N.m (50 in. lbs.).
- Apply air pressure to the respective clutch passages and look/listen for clutch movement.
- Remove the air pressure from the respective clutch passages and look/listen for clutch to return to original position.NOTE:
If any clutch does not appear to be functioning during the air test, add a small amount of 8HP transmission fluid and try the test again. Some circuits will not operate without fluid.
- When testing is finished install the valve body. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Fill the transmission with the proper transmission fluid. Refer to TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE .
