Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

There are three containers along the exhaust bank pipe. Moving from the engine rearward: The first container holds the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The DOC is in the front of the container and the DPF is in the rear of the container. Note: This container may only be called the 'Filter, Diesel Particulate' in other service information. The second container down the exhaust bank is the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Catalyst. The third container is the Muffler. When Diagnostics refer to replacing the DOC, it is referring to the DOC/DPF (or 'Filter, Diesel Particulate'). Not the SCR Catalyst. The DOC calculates the conversion efficiency of raw fuel injected during an active DPF regeneration utilizing the DOC/DPF temperatures.
