Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

The Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor is a hall effect type sensor. The sensor produces a 5 Volt digital signal (square wave). The PCM provides a 5-Volt supply, 5-Volt sensor signal and ground to the CKP Sensor. The sensor is positioned opposite a Crankshaft Reluctor Wheel at the rear of the crankshaft. The Crankshaft Reluctor Wheel contains internal magnetic strips (electric teeth) that act on the hall-effect switch causing the digital switching of the sensor signal from high (5 Volts) to low (0 Volts).
