The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) compares the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Temperature readings to a calibrated threshold. The calibrated threshold varies, and is dependent on the reading from the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor. If the rationalized value is above a calibrated threshold for a cumulative total (during a calibrated amount of time), the PCM determines that the Charge Air Cooler is inefficient and sets the DTC.
