Diagnostic Test

- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any CAC Out Temperature Sensor, Inlet Air Temperature Sensor, Ambient Air Temperature Sensor or Cooling Fan DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE CAC OUT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the CAC Out Temperature Sensor harness connector.
- Remove the CAC Out Temperature Sensor and reconnect the wiring to the sensor.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool in, monitor the CAC Out Temperature Sensor while heating the sensor with an external heat source (DO NOT USE OPEN FLAME).
Does the reading from the sensor increase at least 5°F on the scan tool?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Out Temperature Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- VISUALLY INSPECT THE CHARGE AIR COOLER FOR RESTRICTED AIR FLOW
- Visually inspect the Charge Air Cooler and Radiator fins for excessive debris restricting air flow through the Charge Air Cooler.
Are the Charge Air Cooler or Radiator restricted with debris?
Yes
- Clean the debris from the Charge Air Cooler or Radiator.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Visually inspect the Charge Air Cooler and Radiator fins for excessive debris restricting air flow through the Charge Air Cooler.
- CHECK THE COOLING FAN OPERATION
- Check the Cooling Fan operation.
Was the Cooling Fan found to be operating normal?
Yes
- Check for a base engine condition, such as an engine overheat or intake air restriction that could cause the Charge Air Cooler to work inefficiently.
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
No
- Clean the debris from the Charge Air Cooler or Radiator.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check the Cooling Fan operation.
