Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
    NOTE:

An open ASD power supply to the PCM will cause multiple DTCs including this DTC to set.

    1. Check the PCM for other DTCs.

Are there any other DTCs present.

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Go To  4
  3. CHECK THE PCM POWERS AND GROUNDS
    1. Perform the CHECKING THE PCM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUITS test procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE PCM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUITS .

Were any PCM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUIT issues found.

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE FUEL INJECTOR CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect all of the Fuel Injector harness connectors.
    3. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    4. Check for continuity between ground and each Fuel Injector High Side Control circuit.
    5. Check for continuity between ground and each Fuel Injector Low Side Control circuit.

Is there continuity between ground and any of the Fuel Injector Control circuits?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE FUEL INJECTORS FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Check for continuity between ground and either terminal of each Fuel Injector.

Is there continuity between ground and any of the Fuel Injector terminals?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE FUEL INJECTORS
    1. Measure the resistance of each Fuel Injector (measure across both terminals of the injector).
      NOTE:

Be sure to zero the meter before taking the measurement. A good Fuel Injector has approximately 0.5 Ohms of resistance when measured through it.

Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohm for each Fuel Injector?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

  7. CHECK FOR MULTIPLE FUEL INJECTOR DTCS

Were there multiple Fuel Injector DTCs set in the PCM?

    Yes

    • Go To  8

    No

  8. CHECK FOR ONE FUEL INJECTOR CAUSING MULTIPLE FUEL INJECTOR FAULTS
    1. Connect all harness connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all PCM DTCs.
    4. Disconnect the Fuel Injector 2 harness connector.
    5. With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.
      NOTE:

The continued setting of multiple DTCs indicates that the disconnected injector is not the cause of these faults.

      NOTE:

If multiple DTCs did not reset after disconnecting a single injector, replace the injector that was disconnected. In this case the lack of multiple DTCs setting indicates that the disconnected injector is the cause of these faults.

      Choose the correct result below.

The PCM set Multiple Injector DTCs

      • Connect the disconnected Injector harness connector and repeat test by disconnecting another injector until multiple DTCs are not set.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

The PCM set only a DTC for the disconnected Injector

      • Replace the Fuel Injector that was disconnected in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
