Diagnostic Test

- CHECK THE FUEL INJECTOR CORRECTION CODES IN THE PCM
- Turn the ignition off.
- Locate and record the correction code for the Fuel Injector (related to this DTC). The Injector correction codes are located on top of the Injectors.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, read the Fuel Injector correction code stored in the PCM.
- Compare Fuel Injector correction code with the code programmed in the scan tool.
Is the Fuel Injector calibrated correctly?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Program the Fuel Injector correction code (related to this DTC) with the scan tool into the PCM. The Fuel Injector correction codes are located on top of the Injectors.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any Fuel Injector DTCs active or pending?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE INTAKE SYSTEM FOR LEAKS OR RESTRICTIONS
- Check the entire intake system for a leak or restriction.
Were any INTAKE SYSTEM problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Check the entire intake system for a leak or restriction.
- CHECK THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM
- Perform the CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM

Were any FUEL DELIVERY problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Perform the CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM

- CHECK THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM
- Perform the CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEMS
.
Were any ENGINE MECHANICAL problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- Perform the CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEMS

- INSTALL A NEW FUEL INJECTOR AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the Fuel Injector (related to this DTC) in accordance with the Service Information. Program the correction code for this injector into the Powertrain Control Module.NOTE:
The new Fuel Injector correction code is located on top of the injector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, Erase DTCs.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to reach normal operating
- Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return as active?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
