Diagnostic Test

- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 75.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any Fuel Quantity, Fuel Rail Pressure, EGR System, Crankshaft Position, or Camshaft Position DTCs active or pending?
Yes
- Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE ENGINE FOR A KNOCK
- Start the engine and allow it to idle for one minute.
- Operate the engine under conditions in which the complaint occur.
- Listen for an engine knock.
Is there a knock present?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Fuel Injector in accordance with the Service Information. If this DTC was accompanied by a Crankcase Pressure Sensor DTC, damage to the cylinder may have occurred.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE FUEL INJECTOR FOR A LEAK
- Continue to run the engine at idle.
- Using the scan tool, perform the Injector Kill Test for the cylinder in question.
Does the knock go away?
Yes
- Replace the Fuel Injector in accordance with the Service Information. If this DTC was accompanied by a Crankcase Pressure Sensor DTC, damage to the cylinder may have occurred.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Diagnose the engine for a mechanical failure.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
