      • Go To  2

      No

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
    1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

Are there any 5-Volt Reference DTCs active or pending?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS OR RESTRICTIONS
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the exhaust system for damaged components that could cause exhaust flow blockage.
    3. Inspect all air intake, crankcase vent and turbocharger related hoses/tubes and connections for damage, air leaks or blockage.
    4. Inspect the Charge Air Cooler hoses/tubes and connections for damage, air leaks or blockage.
    5. Inspect the air filter for excessive dirt, soiling or other problems that may cause restricted air flow.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE MAF SENSOR (K142) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the MAF Sensor (K142) Signal circuit at the MAF/Intake Air Sensor harness connector.

Is there continuity between ground and the MAF Sensor (K142) Signal circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE MAF SENSOR (K142) SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (K757) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
    1. Check for continuity between the MAF Sensor (K142) Signal circuit and the (K757) Sensor Ground circuit at the MAF/Intake Air Sensor harness connector.

Is there continuity between ground and the MAF Sensor (K142) Signal circuit and the (K757) Sensor Ground circuit?

      Yes

      • Repair the Mass Air Flow Sensor (K142) Signal circuit for a short to the (K757) Sensor Ground circuit.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (F343) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the MAF harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the MAF harness connector.
      NOTE:

The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Is the test light illuminated and bright?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

      • Repair the Fused ASD (F343) Relay Output circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 3.0L, POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CHECK THE (Z908) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE BY LOAD TESTING THE CIRCUIT
    NOTE:

Read the CIRCUIT LOAD TESTING PROCEDURE for information on building a simple load test tool and for additional load testing information and alternative methods of load testing or voltage drop testing a circuit. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING PROCEDURES .

    Turn the ignition off.

    1. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    2. Load test the (Z908) Ground circuit at the MAF/Intake Air Sensor harness connector. Note:  refer to the diagram below.
    3. NOTE:

The bulb on the load test tool should be illuminated and bright if there is no resistance in the circuitry. Compare the brightness of the bulb in the load test tool to that of a direct connection across Battery.

Is the load test bulb illuminated and bright?

      Yes

      • Go To  8

      No

  8. CHECK THE ABILITY OF THE PCM TO MONITOR THE MAF/INTAKE AIR SENSOR FOR PROPER OPERATION
    1. Turn the ignition off for at least 10 seconds.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
