Camshaft End Play

  1. Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    NOTE:

    Cylinder #1 or #4 must be used when checking for Top Dead Center (TDC).

    NOTE:

    Right intake camshaft shown in illustration, other camshafts similar.

    1 - Dial Indicator
  2. Mount the Dial Indicator Set (special tool #C-3339A, Set, Dial Indicator) to a stationary point at the front of the engine. Place the probe perpendicular against the Oil Control Valve (OCV) of the camshaft.
  3. Move the camshaft all the way to the rear of its travel.
  4. Zero the dial indicator.
  5. Move the camshaft forward to the limit of travel and read the dial indicator. Compare the measured end play to the specification. Refer to ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS .
