Hands Free Phone: Microphones

When the hands free VR control circuitry integral and internal to the radio detects the appropriate inputs or requests, it energizes the circuitry of the stereo microphones in the upper windshield header trim just above the rearview mirror centered between the sun visors. The microphones remain active until they are deactivated by the hands free VR control circuitry, or until the status of the ignition transitions to OFF, whichever occurs first.

The inputs from the microphones are processed, filtered and redirected by the VR control circuitry and logic as appropriate. Those inputs can be redirected to the ASR engine or to the audio send circuitry of the Bluetooth® transceiver. Each of these electronic modules is also integral and internal to the radio.

When the vehicle is equipped with an Emergency Assistance Module (EAM) in markets that require it, the left microphone is connected directly to and use by the EAM, which then also acts as a pass-through so that the left microphone signals can be used by the Uconnect® hands free system.

In markets where the EAM is optional equipment, both microphones are connected directly to the radio.

The status of the Uconnect® + SiriusXM® Guardian Assist  and SOS  push buttons is relayed by hardwired from the Passenger Airbag Indicator to the EAM. In vehicles without EAM, the BCM, which is also a CAN data bus gateway, relays the push button status information to the radio over the CAN-IHS data bus.
