Standard Procedure - Clinch Nut Repair

Cross-Threaded Clinch Nut

  1. Drill out threads by drilling 6.3 mm (0.25 in.) hole through clinch nut.
  2. Tap length of hole for an M6 - 1.0 thread.
  3. Install 06101025 (M6 Heli-Coil) so that the Heli-Coil is at or just below surface of clinch nut.
  4. Break off tang at end of Heli-Coil.

Missing Clinch Nut 

Option 1 - Coupon And Clinch Nut

  1. Obtain 1.0 mm (0.04 in.) thick aluminum (MS.50005-AA6000-HF P1 U) coupon (25 mm x 25 mm) (1.0 in. x 1.0 in.).
  2. Place coupon over hole area to verify there is enough space to weld coupon onto inner panel.
  3. Drill a 10 mm (0.4 in.) hole in center of coupon for installation of clinch nut.
  4. Align hole of coupon with hole of inner panel where the clinch nut is missing. TIG weld coupon over hole location.
  5. Install 06511973AA (M6 clinch nut) using the clinch nut installation tool.
  6. Paint the surrounding areas for corrosion protection as per PSOP 8500.

Option 2 - New Clinch Nut

  1. Dip clinch nut in zinch-rich primer (PPG 1808 or MS-PB7-5) and install wet clinch nut 06511973AA using clinch nut installation tool.
