Standard Procedure - Clinch Nut Repair
Cross-Threaded Clinch Nut
- Drill out threads by drilling 6.3 mm (0.25 in.) hole through clinch nut.
- Tap length of hole for an M6 - 1.0 thread.
- Install 06101025 (M6 Heli-Coil) so that the Heli-Coil is at or just below surface of clinch nut.
- Break off tang at end of Heli-Coil.
Missing Clinch Nut
Option 1 - Coupon And Clinch Nut
- Obtain 1.0 mm (0.04 in.) thick aluminum (MS.50005-AA6000-HF P1 U) coupon (25 mm x 25 mm) (1.0 in. x 1.0 in.).
- Place coupon over hole area to verify there is enough space to weld coupon onto inner panel.
- Drill a 10 mm (0.4 in.) hole in center of coupon for installation of clinch nut.
- Align hole of coupon with hole of inner panel where the clinch nut is missing. TIG weld coupon over hole location.
- Install 06511973AA (M6 clinch nut) using the clinch nut installation tool.
- Paint the surrounding areas for corrosion protection as per PSOP 8500.
Option 2 - New Clinch Nut
- Dip clinch nut in zinch-rich primer (PPG 1808 or MS-PB7-5) and install wet clinch nut 06511973AA using clinch nut installation tool.
