Intermediate Stub Shaft

REMOVAL 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the right front brake system components. Refer to ADAPTER, DISC BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the right front wheel speed sensor. Refer to SENSOR, WHEEL SPEED, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the right front axle shaft
  5. Remove the Front Axle Disconnect (FAD) skid plate and the FAD.

    1 - Intermediate Shaft Ball Bearing
    2 - Intermediate Shaft Bushing
  6. Inspect for intermediate shaft ball bearing to be present and in good condition in housing bore.
  7. Inspect for internal intermediate shaft bushing is present and in good condition in intermediate shaft bore.

  8. Remove the coupler.

    1 - C-clip
  9. Using a suitable tool remove the C-clip from the intermediate shaft.

  10. Remove the intermediate shaft through the steering knuckle.
  11. If debris is present, there is axle damage or coupler damage. Refer to SHAFTS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

INSTALLATION 

During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
