Diagnosis And Testing - Hood Ajar Switch

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Refer to 3.0L, BATTERY DISCONNECT & CONNECT - DUAL 12 VOLT BATTERY SYSTEM or 3.6L, BATTERY DISCONNECT & CONNECT - DUAL 12 VOLT BATTERY SYSTEM .
Disconnect the pigtail wire harness connector for the hood ajar switch at the hood latch.

Check resistance between the two terminals of the hood ajar switch. There should be 500 ohms with the hood latch open, and 1000 ohms with the hood latch closed. If not OK, replace the ineffective hood latch. If OK, go to Step 4.
Test the ground circuit between ground and the hood ajar switch for continuity. If not OK, repair the open ground circuit as required. If OK, go to Step 5.
- For Alarm and Hood Open telltale, test the signal circuit between the hood ajar switch and the Body Control Module (BCM) for continuity to ground. There should be no continuity. If not OK, repair the shorted signal circuit as required. If OK, go to Step 6.
- For Remote Start or Stop/Start issues, test the signal circuit between the hood ajar switch and the Engine Control Module (ECM) for continuity to ground. There should be no continuity. If not OK, repair the shorted signal circuit as required. If OK, go to Step 6.
- For Alarm and Hood Open telltale, test the circuit between the hood ajar switch and the BCM for continuity. There should be continuity. If not OK, repair the open circuit as required. If OK, go to Step 7.
- For Remote Start or Stop/Start issues, test the circuit between the hood ajar switch and the ECM for continuity. There should be continuity. If not OK, repair the open circuit as required. If OK, go to Step 7.
Reconnect the negative battery cable, then reconnect the IBS.
Use a diagnostic scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic procedure to complete testing of the BCM.
