Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    • Go To  2

    No 

  2. TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Confirm the following before proceeding with this diagnostic test.
      • Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply to this system.
      • Diagnose and repair ALL  other TPM, RF Hub and ABS DTCs first  before continuing with this procedure.
      • Turn off, disconnect or disable (without damaging) any added electronic devices (not part of the original equipment) as they can interfere with RF TPM reception in the RF Hub.
      • Verify the tire pressures are correct.
      • Verify the TPM - RKE Analyzer Tool (special tool #2046300080, Kit, TPM/RKE ANALYZER)is the most recent version available before proceeding. Do not assume that the Tool is at the most current version available. Use of a TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool with an outdated version will lead to incorrect diagnosis and part(s) replacement.
      • Contact the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool help desk for assistance with any repair or up dating concerns to the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool.

      Were ALL other TPM, RF Hub & ABS DTCs repaired, system checks, and the TPM-RKE Analyzer tool version confirmed?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Complete/Repair all other TPM, RF Hub & ABS DTCs, system checks listed and verify the TPM-RKE Analyzer tool version.
  3. RECORD THE TPM SENSOR IDS IN THE RF HUB 
    NOTE:

    To perform this test, the vehicle and wheels must not have been moved for the last 19 minutes. Failure to allow 19 minutes of no movement prior to checking could give incorrect results leading to incorrect replacement of TPM sensors.

    1. With the scan Tool, record all 4 (6 dually applications) Sensor IDs from the RF Hub memory.
      NOTE:

      Do not record or reference the exact wheel positions, as they may be incorrect in the RF HUB.

    2. With the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool at the most recent version, select the specific vehicle line and model year.
      NOTE:

      If the incorrect vehicle line or model year are selected the TPM sensor may not respond to the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool.

    3. With the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool, read all the TPM Sensors on the vehicle, record their IDs, wheel positions, and operation state (the TPM Sensors should be in the PARK mode). If a sensor doesn't read the first time, try several more times.
      NOTE:

      There is a remote possibility the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool can read a TPM Sensor from a different vehicle, instead of the vehicle being tested. If a sensor ID read by the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool does not match any of the IDs in the RF Hub recorded earlier, relocate vehicles to a proximity that is greater than 10 feet and repeat reading.

      Did any of the TPM sensor IDs read match an ID stored in the RF Hub?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. TPM-RKE ANALYZER TOOL OPERATION VERIFICATION 
    1. With the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool attempt to read a new TPM Sensor (one not installed) from stock or a known good vehicle of the same year and model.
      NOTE:

      The ID read by the Tool must agree with the ID written on the side of the sensor housing.

      Does the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool read the new TPM Sensor from stock or the known good vehicle with the same year and model?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • There is an issue with the TPM-RKE tool.
      • Contact the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool help desk for assistance with any repair or updating concerns to the TPM-RKE Analyzer Tool.
  5. CHECK FOR PARK MODE 

    Did any sensor have no response to the TPM -RKE Analyzer tool or in a mode other than PARK MODE?

    Yes 

    • Non responding or wrong mode sensors should be replaced. Prior to replacing the sensor, read and record the new ID with the TPM RKE Analyzer tool and compare to the ID number on the housing to confirm they match. Refer to SENSOR, TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING (TPM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    • After replacing any indicated sensors and remounting the wheels, use the TPM RKE Analyzer tool to record the positions of the IDs now on the vehicle and verify in the PARK mode. If a sensor in not in PARK mode, put the sensor in the PARK mode with the Analyzer tool
    • Go To  6

    No 

    • Go To  6
  6. PERFORM A LOCALIZATION TEST 
    NOTE:

    This test makes it easy to drive and view on the TPM display screen that TPM Sensors messages are being received and when they are located. Low pressure warnings may occur on split placard (ex 60 psi front and 80 psi rear) vehicles until the system completes auto-location successfully.

    1. With the scan tool, write false IDs into each of the sensors locations in the RF Hub as follows: Sensor 1 = 11111111, Sensor 2 = 22222222, Sensor 3 = 33333333, Sensor 4 = 44444444, and if dually vehicle Sensor 6 = 66666666, Sensor 7 = 77777777). This will cause the TPM display pressure values to go to dashes on the TPM display of the Cluster.
    2. Using the sensor IDs recorded earlier with the TPM RKE Analyzer tool, write the sensor IDs into the RF Hub one position clockwise more than the actual position (i.e. the Sensor ID at FL is written into the RF Hub FR (sensor 1) position: Sensor ID at FR written into RR,•••). For inner dual wheel vehicles, the Inner RR sensor ID is written into RF Hub at the Inner RL position and the Inner RL Sensor ID is written into the RF Hub at the inner RR position). Programming the IDs will set the C151D-00 DTC to stored.
    3. Adjust tire pressure such that the tires on the same axle are at the same pressure, but the pressures between axles are noticeably different (5 psi). On split placard vehicles, no pressure adjustment is necessary since there is at least a 5 psi difference between axles. For Inner dual wheel applications, set the inner RL sensor 5 psi lower than the inner RR sensor.
    4. It is important to turn the ignition off and then back on after writing the IDs and prior to the drive. Drive the vehicle in 2 WD greater than 15 mph (when possible). Pressures should replace the dashes shortly after the drive starts, but the pressure values should be shown in the wrong positions.
    5. Driving in a several mile loop should expedite the location process. Stop the drive when the correct pressures are in the correct positions or 20 cumulative minutes at speeds exceed 15 mph has occurred.

    Did the correct pressure values get moved to the correct locations?

    Yes 

    • The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Inspect ABS wheel sensors for damage or incorrect mounting and harness connector for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary if no other repairs were made.
    • Clear DTCs.
    • Adjust Tire pressures to placard requirement, test complete.

    No 

    • Go To  7
  7. CHECK THE TPM SENSOR STATE 
    1. Within 10 minutes of completing the localization test drive (vehicle moving above 15 mph), read all of the TPM sensors with the TPM RKE Analyzer tool, recording the ID and operating mode it is in.

      Are all sensors in the INTERIM mode?

      Yes 

      • Repair Complete.

      No
