Theory Of Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) monitors the Inverter Switch by providing a reference voltage to the Inverter Switch, through the Inverter Switch Signal circuit. The reference voltage travels through the Inverter Switch and back to the BCM through the Inverter Switch Return circuit.

When the Inverter Switch is in the OFF position, the internal activation switch is open. The BCM reference voltage travels through the Inverter Switch Signal circuit, to the Inverter Switch. The reference voltage continues through an internal 3.65k Ohm resistor and then through a 6.49k Ohm diagnostic resistor, which is in parallel to the internal activation switch. The remaining reference voltage travels back to the BCM through the Inverter Switch Return circuit.

When the Inverter Switch is in the ON position, the internal activation switch closes. The reference voltage travels to the Inverter Switch and through the internal 3.65k Ohm resistor, but the 6.49k Ohm diagnostic resistor is bypassed. The remaining reference voltage travels back to the BCM through the Inverter Switch Return circuit.

When the BCM detects the Inverter Switch is in the ON position, the BCM sends a signal to the Power Inverter Module (PIM) to activate the 400 Watt Alternating Current (AC) Power Outlets.
