Fuel Warning Light Does Not Work

With the ignition key on, the fuel reserve warning light does not come on when the tank enters the reserve level.

NOTE:

The message comes from the fuel level signal to the Body Control Module (BCM) and made available to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) through the CAN-B network.

The BCM also sends a fuel level sensor error message.

1 CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Result OK Result Not OK Action
  Connect the diagnostic scan tool to the DLC.
Verify the absence of anomalies in the BCM.
Continue to Step 2 Sensor with open circuit, sensor DC, value incongruent / implausible with actual fuel level Proceed as indicated by the diagnostic tool
2 CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Result OK Result Not OK Action
  With the diagnostic scan tool, test the functionality of the fuel reserve light through active diagnosis. Continue to Step 3 The light does not come on. Replace instrument panel cluster
3 CHECK FUEL LEVEL SENSOR Result OK Result Not OK Action
  Check the operation of the fuel level sensor Continue to Step 4 Sensor not working. Replace the fuel pump assembly
4 CHECK ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT Result OK Result Not OK Action
  Check continuity / insulation of the circuits between the fuel level sensor and BCM. Continue to Step 5 Circuit fault / not insulated. Restore circuit continuity / insulation
5 CHECK PROPER OPERATION Result OK Result Not OK Action
  Verify that the fault is no longer present Diagnostic complete Anomaly persists Replace the Body Control Module
